International Women’s Day

Monday 8th March marks International Women’s Day – a global day which celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for gender equality in line with 2021’s theme #ChooseToChallenge.

At Clever Company we aim to support gender diversity with 46% of employees being female, of which 21% work in management positions. We are proud to be working alongside a strong group of women across all parts of the business leading the brand globally. We are thrilled to celebrate the achievements of all the women at Clever Company who challenge themselves to create new paths by sharing their knowledge and experiences with others to follow in their footsteps.

At Clever Company we strive to give all of our employees the encouragement and training to progress their careers, particularly encouraging women to consider senior roles, providing long term and enjoyable progression within the business.

It is great to look back and see how far we have come but we are even more excited about the difference we can make in the year ahead.

In recognition of International Women’s Day, Clever Company are proud to promote a culture that values diversity of all kinds. To understand key views from just a selection of women in senior positions we have conducted a short Q&A session on their career, aspirations and motivations at Clever Company.

Shelley Evans – Head of Logistics

1. What is your proudest moment working for the Clever Company?
My proudest moment was the opening of our new offices due to the growth and expansion of the business. It felt like a huge achievement after the team had worked so hard. We continue to grow and develop, meaning we are adding great new colleagues to our team.

2. What advice do you have for women starting out in business careers?
Look for opportunities which will allow you to grow and learn. Be confident and build strong working relationships along your journey. Keep focused and have a plan of what you are trying to achieve but be open to change as you may find exciting new challenges.

3. What motivates you professionally?
When you are facing new challenges or given targets and goals to achieve it can be very motivating, especially if you believe you can make a big difference. When you bring a new idea or solution to the business which will help the streamline processes or develop new strategies, it is a great feeling.

4. Which powerful women inspire you?
As a sports fan, I am inspired by Prof Denise Barrett-Baxendale, MBE, who is Chief Executive Officer of Everton Football Club and Executive Chair of the Club’s official charity, Everton in the Community. Under Denise’s stewardship, Everton in the Community has received international recognition for its pioneering initiatives and programmes – schemes which, collectively, have earned almost 100 local, national and international awards. Historically, football has often been viewed as a man’s world, but you can see change in several clubs with appointments of women in high level positions and it is strong, hard-working women like Denise who have helped this change.

Jill Unsworth – Team Leader

1. What is your proudest moment working for the Clever Company?
My proudest moment working for Clever Company is seeing the amazing growth we have achieved as a business. I am particularly proud of the hard work and dedication my colleagues and I have put in. I am additionally proud that we have gone from starting out with 4 style of hot tubs in 2018, to over 37 different styles in 2021.

2. What advice do you have for women starting out in business careers?
My advice for women starting out in a business career would be to be to maintain confidence and not to be afraid to try new challenges. Even if something feels like a big challenge, see it as a bigger goal to achieve.

3. What motivates you professionally?
I am motivated professionally by mentoring each customer service team member at Clever Company to ensure they continue to exceed expectations, by adapting a positive mental attitude to achieve their goals and targets.

4. Which powerful women inspire you?
A powerful woman who inspires me would be Kate Middleton. The Duchess devotes her time supporting a number of charitable causes and organisations, several of which are centred around providing children with the best possible start in life. This broadly reflects her desire to help the most vulnerable children, young people and their families.
